A Need in Our Community
In the State of Ohio, nearly 40% of infants born each year are born to single mothers. In 2009, there were an estimated 30 programs operating in the State, providing housing and supportive services to women with unplanned pregnancies, with a combined capacity to serve approximately 250 women each year. In Lucas County, programming specifically designed to provide comprehensive support services to women who are coping with unplanned pregnancies are not currently available, representing a significant gap in the region’s spectrum of services available for pregnant women in crisis.
Program History

Path to Life was established in 2000 with the goal of promoting life-affirming choices to single women who are dealing with unplanned pregnancies and lack the resources to support a healthy pregnancy by providing temporary housing, case management and supportive services.

From 2000 to 2008, Path to Life provided shelter and pregnancy and post-birth supportive services to over 70 single women who did not have the resources to support themselves or an infant child. In early 2009, Path to Life temporarily ceased operations to re-organize as an independent non-profit agency. Path to Life currently provides material assistance, referral assistance, and a variety of resources (parenting and nutrition classes, adoption information, etc.), and expects to resume its housing to pregnant women again in 2011.
